ORDER:
In the Government order first read above, the system of compounding of offences otherwise known as the spot fine system exercisable by the Police Officers not below the rank of Inspector of Police was introduced in Chennai city. The spot fine system was extended to the cities of Madurai and Coimbatore in the Government order second read above. It was also ordered therein, that the Transport officials be allowed to exercise the power of compounding of offences in check posts on the lines of Police officers exercising such authority. The Government have decided the spot fine system be extended to the city of Trichirappalli also. They have also decided that the existing rates of spot fine be doubled. They accordingly direct that the existing rates or spot fine be doubled and the system be introduced in the city of Tiruchirappalli with immediate effect. The Government have also decided to issue a fresh comprehensive notification in this regard.
The following notification will be published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette:-
NOTIFICATION
In exercise the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 200 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Central Act 59 of 1988) the Governor of Tamil Nadu, in supersession of the Home Department Notification No.II(2)/HO/5524/92, dated 28.10.1992, published at pages 667-668 of part II section 2 of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette dated the 18th November 1992, No.III/NO/2646/95, dated 28.4.1995, published at page 622 of part II section 2 of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, dated 2.8.1995 and No.II(2)/HO/2641/95, dated 28.4.1995, published at pages 622-623 of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette, dated 2.8.1995, hereby specifies the officers of the Transport Department not below the rank of a Motor Vehicles Inspector (Non-technical) in the check posts of the Transport Department in respect of the vehicles coming from other States and also specifies the police officers not below the rank of an Inspector of Police having jurisdiction over the areas in the cities of Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli other than the check posts of Transport Department, to compound offences committed under the said Act and punishable under the sections specified in column (3) of the table below either before or after the institution of prosecution for the amounts specified in the corresponding entries in column (4) hereof:-
